10.13.09 : Global Pharmaceutical Company Complements Energy & Waste Reduction Efforts with Implementation of Transportation Management Solution

Health care product giant Abbott deploys CMS WorldLink, a transportation managment solution, to streamline worldwide supply chain operations & heighten logistics efficiencies across the enterprise

Global supply chain and transportation enterprise management leader CMS GlobalSoft, Inc. announces today the signing of its newest transportation management solutions (TMS) client, Abbott (NYSE : ABT), a global, broad-based health care company devoted to the discovery, development, manufacture and marketing of pharmaceuticals and medical products, including nutritionals, devices and diagnostics. The company employs more than 72,000 people and markets its products in more than 130 countries.

“Abbott recently initiated a company-wide effort to safeguard the environment and reduce energy costs across all of its global health care businesses,” says CMS GlobalSoft President & CEO Wil Fekeci, noting the health care product giant has just recently reported success in cutting use of oil and coal by 35 percent. True o form, Abbott’s Vice President of Global Engineering Services, Corlis Murray, was recently quoted saying that conserving electricity has become a integral part of the way Abbott does business. Says Murray, “Our businesses have employed a variety of approaches that are economically as well as environmentally sustainable based on the many different products we market, various manufacturing needs and opportunities that exist at different plant locations around the world.”

“This kind of massive, international initiative requires an organization like Abbott to scrutinize absolutely every single aspect of their operations where resources can be consolidated to reduce energy costs and where waste and redundancy can be reduced or altogether eliminated.” Fekeci adds, “This is where, on the supply chain and logistics side of operations, a transportation management solution like our CMS WorldLink becomes an integral, key player in the role of conservation. As a robust, enterprise-wide TMS solution, CMS WorldLink can identify pockets of opportunities where global logistics productivity and efficiencies can be maximized worldwide, thus resulting in significant savings of energy, time and resources across the supply chain.”
